A surge in fighting between Saudi-backed government forces and Houthi rebels has displaced over 149,000 people in Yemen, causing severe food shortages and leaving 74 percent of households in accessible government-held areas unable to meet basic food needs. With the country importing nearly 90 percent of its food, the escalation threatens critical Red Sea shipping corridors like the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, risking global price hikes while the World Food Programme faces an urgent $109 million funding gap to deliver critical aid.
